Being one of the leading universities in Germany, Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM),
invites you to join the International Remote Sensing Summer
School (RSSS12) on July 19-20, 2012. This event takes place in conjunction with
the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) in Munch. It
is organized by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) and the
Department of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (Prof. Uwe Stilla) from the TUM.
The school is intended for BS, MS and PhD students dealing with geoscience and
remote sensing topics. The school will offer these students the opportunity to
meet international renowned specialists and experts in the field of remote sensing
and to gain an in-depth-education with the state-of-art knowledge on selected topics
of remote sensing.
The programme of the school will cover a wide range of topics, such as the ones listed
below (ordered by their presentation in the summer school).
Topics:
- Methods and Systems for Forest Applications.
This topic will be covered by Prof. David Goodenough (University of Victoria, Canada).
He will address the need to use remote sensing data from multiple sensors and integrate
these data with historical information contained within geographical information systems
in forest applications.
- Challenges in the analysis of multitemporal remote sensing images.
This topic will be covered by Prof. Lorenzo Bruzzone (University of Trento, Italy).
He will describe the state of the art and the most promising research directions
for change detection on images acquired by the last generation of satellite sensors.
- Advanced Methods for Classification of Hyperspectral Data.
This topic will be covered by Prof. Melba Crawford (Purdue University, USA).
She will discuss advanced techniques for feature extraction, supervised
and semi-supervised classification of hyperspectral images (including the use
of active learning heuristics for better utilizing existing labeled data and for
efficient acquisition of additional labeled information).
- Hyperspectral Image and Signal Processing.
This topic will be covered by Prof. Jocelyn Chanussot (Grenoble Institute of Technology, France)
and Prof. Antonio Plaza (University of Extremadura, Spain).
They will discuss aspects related with hyperspectral image segmentation and hierarchical
representations, spectral unmixing of hyperspectral data with geometric or statistical methods,
and high performance computing using parallel systems.
- SAR Urban Remote Sensing.
This topic will be covered by Prof. Uwe Stilla (Technische Universitaet Muenchen, Germany).
He will discuss the impact of using high resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data
on the analysis of urban scenes, providing examples for the characterization of buildings
and other man-made objects.
- Multispectral Urban Remote Sensing and Data Fusion.
This topic will be covered by Prof. Paolo Gamba (University of Pavia, Italy).
He will describe the aim and main methodologies involved in the use of Earth Observation data to monitor,
characterize and analyze human settlements.
- SAR Interferometry and Tomography.
This topic will be covered by Prof. Richard Bamler (DLR & Technische Universitaet Muenchen, Germany).
He will discuss imaging geometries of different SAR interferometry (InSAR) configurations,
as well as other concepts related with InSAR techniques.
- Morphological Profiles and Attribute Profiles.
This topic will be covered by Dr. Prashanth Marpu (Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, UAE)
and Dr. Mauro Dalla Mura (University of Trento, Italy). They will discuss the use of morphological and
attribute profiles in practical remote sensing applications (e.g., classification, object detection,
segmentation, change detection, etc.) and considering different types of remote sensing images.
Each participant will receive at the end of the summer school
a certificate confirming his attendance to the summer school.
The organizers of the summer school would like to take this opportunity to gratefully
thank the President of GRSS, Prof. Jon Atli Benediktsson, for inspiring and encouraging this
important education-oriented initiative in our society.
